We are pleased to announce that on 5 February 2026, Outsider Gallery will become Gallery 144.

Named after its home at 144 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills, this new name marks the next chapter in the gallery’s evolution, as it expands its curatorial program to encompass a wider range of contemporary art-making practices.

Founded as Outsider Gallery in 2024 by Michael Pizzardello and Nik Ternezis, the gallery has established a focus on close collaboration with artists, a dynamic exhibition program, and a gallery environment that is open and welcoming.

The name Outsider reflected the gallery’s early interest in artists working beyond conventional pathways, as well as its position as a new and independent voice within the Sydney contemporary art scene.

As Gallery 144, the gallery continues this focus with an increased commitment to representing established and emerging contemporary Australian artists — reflecting the evolution of its exhibition program since its founding in 2024.

Gallery 144 will reopen under its new name on 5 March 2026 with 'New Skin', an exhibition curated by Tai Mitsuji, featuring Emily Galicek, Eduardo Wolfe-Alegría, and Genevieve Felix Reynolds.
